BINOM.DIST (SuccessCount, TrialCount, Probability, IsCumulative) BINOM.DIST (SuccessCount; TrialCount; Probability; IsCumulative)

SuccessCount

Number Number

The number of successes in a set of trials.

TrialCount

Number Number

The number of trials.

Probability

Number Number

The probability of success in each trial.

IsCumulative

Logical Logical

TRUE to return the probability that a value is at most the value of the SuccessCount parameter (the cumulative distribution function). FALSE to return the probability of exactly that value (the probability mass function).

Returns

Number Number

A probability for a binomial distribution.

Returns a probability for a binomial distribution. The binomial distribution models the number of successes in a fixed number of independent trials, each with the same probability of success.

Examples

BINOM.DIST (4, 15, 40 % , FALSE)
BINOM.DIST (4; 15; 40 % ; FALSE)

Returns roughly 0.1268 (about 12.7%), the probability of getting exactly 4 successes in 15 trials where each trial has a 40% chance of success.

BINOM.DIST (4, 15, 40 % , TRUE)
BINOM.DIST (4; 15; 40 % ; TRUE)

Returns roughly 0.2173 (about 21.7%), the probability of getting 4 or fewer successes in 15 trials where each trial has a 40% chance of success.
