EXPON.DIST (X, Lambda, IsCumulative) EXPON.DIST (X; Lambda; IsCumulative)

X

Number Number

A value at which to evaluate the function, which must not be negative.

Lambda

Number Number

The average number of events per unit of time. The mean waiting time is 1 divided by this value.

IsCumulative

Logical Logical

TRUE to return the probability that a value is at most the value of the X parameter (the cumulative distribution function). FALSE to return the height of the distribution's curve at that value (the probability density function), which is useful for plotting the distribution but is not itself a probability.

Returns

Number Number

A value for an exponential distribution.

Returns a value for an exponential distribution. The exponential distribution describes the waiting time between events that occur independently at a constant average rate.

Examples

EXPON.DIST (3, 0.5, TRUE)
EXPON.DIST (3; 0,5; TRUE)

Returns roughly 0.78, the probability of waiting at most 3 hours if an event occurs every other hour on average.

EXPON.DIST (3, 0.5, FALSE)
EXPON.DIST (3; 0,5; FALSE)

Returns roughly 0.11.

EXPON.DIST ( - 3, 0.5, TRUE)
EXPON.DIST ( - 3; 0,5; TRUE)

Returns an error.
