XIRR (Values, Dates, Guess?) XIRR (Values; Dates; Guess?)

Values

An array containing the payments made or received, at irregular intervals.

Dates

An array containing dates on which the payments were made or received.

Guess

Number Number (optional)

A first guess at the rate. If omitted, 10% (0.1) is assumed.

Returns

Number Number

The internal rate of return of a series of irregular cash flows.

Calculates the internal rate of return of a series of cash flows that occur on specific dates. Unlike IRR, which assumes equally spaced periods, XIRR handles irregular intervals between cash flows.

Example

XIRR ({  - 5000, 1500, 4000 }, {  DATE (2010, 1, 1), DATE (2010, 9, 1), DATE (2011, 3, 1) })
XIRR ({  - 5000; 1500; 4000 }; {  DATE (2010; 1; 1); DATE (2010; 9; 1); DATE (2011; 3; 1) })

Returns roughly 9.75%. Suppose you invest $5,000 on January 1, 2010, receive $1,500 on September 1, 2010 and $4,000 on March 1, 2011. The annualized rate of return for these irregularly spaced cash flows is roughly 9.75%.
