COVARIANCE.P (Numbers1, Numbers2) COVARIANCE.P (Numbers1; Numbers2)

Numbers1

The first set of values. This array must have the same size as the other array parameter.

Numbers2

The second set of values. This array must have the same size as the other array parameter.

Returns

Number Number

The population covariance.

Returns the population covariance, which is the average of the products of the deviations of each pair of values from their means. Use this function if the values make up an entire population.

A positive result indicates that the values tend to increase together and a negative result indicates that one tends to decrease as the other increases. Use CORREL for a measure that does not depend on the scale of the values.

Example

COVARIANCE.P ({ 1, 2, 3, 4 }, { 2, 4, 5, 8 })
COVARIANCE.P ({ 1; 2; 3; 4 }; { 2; 4; 5; 8 })

Returns 2.375. The positive result indicates that the values of the second array tend to increase with the values of the first array.
