NEGBINOM.DIST (FailureCount, SuccessThreshold, Probability, IsCumulative) NEGBINOM.DIST (FailureCount; SuccessThreshold; Probability; IsCumulative)

FailureCount

Number Number

The number of failures in a set of trials.

SuccessThreshold

Number Number

The threshold number of successes.

Probability

Number Number

The probability of success in each trial.

IsCumulative

Logical Logical

TRUE to return the probability that a value is at most the value of the FailureCount parameter (the cumulative distribution function). FALSE to return the probability of exactly that value (the probability mass function).

Returns

Number Number

A probability for a negative binomial distribution.

Returns a probability for a negative binomial distribution. The negative binomial distribution models the number of failures that occur before a specified number of successes is reached, in a sequence of independent trials.

Example

NEGBINOM.DIST (2, 3, 40 % , FALSE)
NEGBINOM.DIST (2; 3; 40 % ; FALSE)

Returns roughly 0.1382 (about 13.8%), the probability of encountering exactly 2 failures before achieving 3 successes when each trial has a 40% chance of success.
