SKEW (First, Other...) SKEW (First; Other...)
First
The first number or array of numbers.
Other
Additional numbers or arrays of numbers.
Returns
Number Number
A measure of how skewed a distribution is.
Returns a measure of how asymmetric a distribution is around its mean. A positive skewness indicates a longer right tail, a negative skewness indicates a longer left tail, and a value of zero indicates a symmetric distribution. Use KURT to determine how peaked or flat a distribution is. Use SKEW.P to determine the skewness based on a population rather than a sample.
Examples
SKEW (2, 3, 3, 4, 8)
SKEW (2; 3; 3; 4; 8)
Returns roughly 1.7444, indicating a distribution with a long right tail, pulled by the outlier value 8.
SKEW (1, 2, 5, 8, 9)
SKEW (1; 2; 5; 8; 9)
Returns 0, indicating a perfectly symmetric distribution.
